Description
Flowers – Carlo De Tommasi, Italy, 2010 – Oil on canvas cm. 70×55
In this precious oil painting, Carlo De Tommasi is inspired by the compositions of the Dutch Balthasar van der Ast, who was one of the first artists to specialize in still lifes, having flowers and fruits as subjects, although he painted a considerable number of them with shells ; in this regard he is considered a pioneer in the representation of this genre. His still lifes also often contain insects and lizards.
Here we admire an arrangement of two rare shells, a great skill in the three-dimensional representation of the vase, in which we find a beautiful bouquet of flowers that dominates the composition, and a light frafalla placed on them.
